A NOTE OF HOPE: INTRODUCTION
The Introduction was created in June, 2009, to showcase the smoking jazz performances of this group and to introduce the concept of the spirituals and their social justice legacy. It’s also a great way to meet the main characters–John Blake, Rosella Washington, Gerald Veasley, Sumi Tonooka, and Butch Reed. As our production develops, we will be adding more trailers. Approximate running time: 3 minutes.

A NOTE OF HOPE: AFRICA
This trailer provides some highlights from the September, 2009, trip to Africa–the first time ever these long-time friends and band members had ever visited the continent. They traveled to Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Ghana to perform their jazz arrangements of spirituals there and to meet the children for whom they have been raising money. Along the way, the met and performed with other African musicians who are also using music to highlight humanitarian causes. Their journey deepened their understanding of African-American history, the current AIDS orphans crisis, their personal family experiences and childhood backgrounds, and their commitment to continue using spirituals to promote today’s social justice issues of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Approx. running time: 11 minutes.
